+ What is the Cancellation Policy?
New for 2024: Science Venture operates as a non-profit organization and incurs substantial fees for each cancellation. The later the cancellation, the harder it is for us to fill the spot with somebody on the waitlist. To offset these costs, our cancellation and transfer policy is as follows:
- More than 7 business days before the program’s start date: 100% refund of program price, minus a $50 cancellation fee.
- 7 business days or less before the program’s start date: 50% refund of program price.
- After 9am the Friday before the program’s start date: No refund provided.
+ Do you offer extended hours?
Yes. Extended hours are from 8:00am - 9:00am & 4:00pm - 5:00pm.
Extended hours are an extra $45/5-day week or $36/4-day week. The cost covers both morning and afternoon coverage.
+ What about students in Grades 9-12?
For students entering grades 10-12 in the Fall of 2024 we have options! First and foremost, our Junior Counsellor Leadership Program is a great way to continue your passion for STEM while gaining experience in a team and classroom environment. For more information, please check out the Volunteer page of our website.
Additionally, if you are keen to continue STEM learning with more in-depth dives into STEM studies, we will be hosting our Leadership in Engineering Design Summer Institute, for grades 9 to 12. For more information, please check out the High School Programs page of our website.
+ Allergies
Science Venture is a "Nut Aware" facility. This means we kindly request families to refrain from sending campers with nut products in their bags. However we cannot guarentee that nuts/peanuts will not be in our programs in your campers classroom. For this reason, please remind your camper not to share their food.
Epipens:
If your camper carries an epipen please fill out our Anaphylaxis Action From and have it ready for day 1 of camp. Our team will review it and flag the bag that carries the epipen.
+ What is being done about the Encampment?
Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,
As Science Venture approaches the start of our Summer 2024 Camp Season, we wanted to reaffirm to parents/guardians and caregivers that the safety of your children and youth is our top priority.
Since May 1st, 2024 a group of students set up an encampment on the University of Victoria Quad to protest the ongoing conflict in Gaza. In previous years, Science Venture has used the same space on the Quad for our sign-in and sign-out as well as an outdoor lunch spot to eat, play Capture the Flag and on Fridays, participate in Operation Outsmart.
Out of an abundance of caution, Science Venture has decided to move our activities that normally take place on the Quad to a different area of campus (the fields and walkway between the Human & Social Development Building, the Harry Hickman Building and the Sedgewick Buildings). We will also be altering our walking routes around campus to avoid the general Quad area. A map of this new sign-in/out area will be featured in our 2024 Camper Package and FAQ.
While we cannot guarantee that youth participating in our camps will not see the encampment, we hope that moving these activities will limit their exposure to the encampment.
I want to assure you that, while campus looks a little different, life is continuing at UVic and we expect all camps to proceed as scheduled. We will work with Campus Security throughout the summer to ensure the safety of your camper(s) and have plans in place to minimize potential impacts from the encampment.
You can learn more about how UVic is responding to the encampment at uvic.ca/encampment.
If you still have any questions or concerns regarding Science Venture’s operations this summer, please contact our office at 250-721-8158 or by email at svprograms@uvic.ca.
Best regards,
