Description

We are looking to build our Summer (2026) Travel Team. As a Travel Team Instructor, your job will be to develop and deliver high-impact STEM programs to youth in collaboration with Indigenous community partners. The Travel Team will drive a UVic Van full of supplies and deliver activities to youth in communities across Vancouver Island. Camps are generally five days in length and will entail living in the communities during delivery. Travel on weekends will be required. Locations we travel to include: Tofino, Ucluelet, Gold River, Port Hardy, Alert Bay, Port Alberni, Campbell River, and more. If you are looking to travel the island this summer, consider our summer Travel Team.

Due to the nature of the work, you should expect being away from Victoria for several weeks at a time.

This term at Science Venture will have 4 main components:

1)     Workshop Training (first two weeks of term)
Participating in Science Venture and Actua training sessions pre-workshops, as well as workshop-specific training. Training sessions will include behaviour management, conflict resolution, inclusion and accessibility, WHMIS & lab safety, reflective listening and workshop delivery.

2)     In-School Workshops (five weeks in May-June)
Co-delivering in-school workshops (grades K-8) to youth in Victoria and Northern Vancouver Island with the local Youth STEM Instructor Team.

3)     Camp Training and Curriculum Development (two weeks in June)
Work in collaboration with our Indigenous Community Partners to develop locally and culturally relevant curriculum. The Travel Team will develop 5 days of summer camp programming, pack up the Van, and prepare to travel up-island!

4)     Summer Camp (9 weeks in July and August)
Delivering camp as a co-instructor team in several Nuu-chah-nulth communities. Maintaining an inclusive and safe space for all youth to learn about STEM in a culturally relevant manner. Contributing to the future of the program by participating in evaluation, providing feedback, and sharing success stories. Living and working with your colleagues in Indigenous communities during delivery periods. There will be a break mid-summer for you to return to Victoria and re-stock on supplies before heading off again.
